Act), the three largest credit reporting agencies, Equifax, TransUnion and Experian are required to provide you with a free copy of your credit report once a year. The credit reporting agencies sell the information in your report to creditors, insurers, employers and other entities that use it to evaluate your applications for credit, insurance, employment and other purposes. You need know the information on your credit report to correct any errors within the report and if someone has been using your identity. Correcting errors on your credit reports will result in a better credit rating which will make you more attractive to prospective lenders. If the error has been corrected, the agency will provide you with a new report showing that the error has been revised. If the problem is not resolved, you can then submit a written statement of up to 100 words explaining your side of the dispute. By reviewing your credit reports at least once a year, you will make sure that the information others rely upon in making decisions concerning your credit worthiness is accurate and complete.
